Abstract
As research and education networks across Africa pursue more inclusive digital infrastructure, access to technical knowledge in local languages remains a vital — and often overlooked — challenge. This hands-on session at PyCon Africa 2025 invites participants to contribute to Glosario (https://glosario.carpentries.org/), an open-source, multilingual glossary of computing and data science terms. Glosario currently includes over 600 terms in 26 languages, with a growing representation of African languages such as isiZulu, Kiswahili, Setswana, isiXhosa, Amharic, Afrikaans, and Southern Sotho. These translations help break language barriers in programming and data science education.
The session will begin with a brief guided tutorial on how to contribute to Glosario, covering how to add new terms, translate existing ones, and review definitions. Participants will then engage in a collaborative sprint to expand the glossary, with a special focus on African languages. Whether you're fluent in a local language, passionate about education, or new to open source, your contribution can make a difference. Let's build a more inclusive, multilingual Python ecosystem together.
