Health and Safety Guidelines

PyCon Africa 2025 – Health & Safety Policy

PyCon Africa 2025 will take place in-person at The Wanderers Club, Johannesburg, South Africa, from October 8–12, 2025.

We are thrilled to bring together a diverse and passionate Python community from across Africa and around the world.

Your health and safety are a top priority. This Health & Safety Policy outlines our approach to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone attending PyCon Africa.

General Approach

We are following public health guidance from the South African Department of Health, while also applying community-driven best practices to create a safe space for learning, networking, and collaboration.

Our policy will be updated as necessary in response to changing health conditions or government regulations. We are committed to transparency and will keep all attendees informed of any changes.

Masks & Personal Protection

  • Masks are optional but welcomed and encouraged, especially in indoor, crowded settings.
  • We support the use of N95/KN95 masks or equivalents for those who choose to wear them.
  • Please respect the personal choices of others, whether they choose to mask or not.

Vaccinations & Illness Prevention

  • Attendees are strongly encouraged to stay up-to-date on routine vaccinations in their home country.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not required for entry into South Africa.
  • Yellow Fever vaccination is mandatory for travelers from affected countries.
  • Other recommended vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Tetanus, Typhoid.

If you feel unwell, are symptomatic, or test positive for any contagious illness (e.g., COVID-19) before or during the event:

  • Do not attend the conference.
  • Contact our team at team@pycon.africa for assistance and guidance.

Venue Safety & Hygiene

  • Hand sanitising stations will be available throughout the venue.
  • We encourage good hygiene and discourage handshakes, try an elbow bump or a verbal greeting.
  • Venue staff will regularly clean high-touch areas and shared spaces.

International Travel Advice

If you’re travelling from outside South Africa:

  • Check your visa requirements and apply early.
  • Yellow Fever vaccination proof is required if travelling from or transiting through affected countries.
  • We recommend travel insurance that covers health-related cancellations or disruptions.

Behavior & Enforcement

All attendees are expected to follow these guidelines in good faith.

  • Repeated or intentional disregard of these policies may result in removal from the event without refund.
  • Let's be kind, patient, and considerate—your actions help keep the community safe.
